Every school has a school council-a group focused on helping all students succeed.

School councils are groups of parents, community representatives, teaching and non-teaching employees, students and the school principal. Through the active participation of parents, school councils work to improve student achievement and enhance the accountability of the education system to parents.

Support for school councils is provided by the Simcoe County District School Board's Parent Involvement Committee.

Why join us on school council?

Involvement in school council is a meaningful, hands-on way to have a direct, positive impact on your child's educational experience. Research shows that when parents are involved in their child's education, the level of student achievement increases.

  • Welcome / thank you to everyone – Next Meeting via Zoom
  • Land acknowledgement – Mr. Cappadocia
  • Pass the minutes from the October 3rd meeting – passed by Andrea and Haley
  • Principal Report – CUPE Protest, hopeful comes to pass this week. Families were very supportive during Strike days. It was nice to have Families in for our Student Lead Conferences on our PA Day. Our Book Fair was very successful, approximately $9000.00 in sales. (Scholastic credits) (Sean) Staff and students are learning to learn and unlearn. We are planning to make purchases to support local Indigenous businesses. June is Indigenous Month. (Ixchel)
  • Teacher Report – Ms. McLachlan with two of our students. The students created a Cheerleading club, they are the Captain and Co - Captain. Both students are very involved with school activities. Examples are Lunch Helpers, Wellness Wednesday (Inspirational messages over the announcements), filling snack baskets, created a slide show for our Character Assembly, School Announcements in the mornings. We have many clubs currently at our school, Pokémon, Dance, Math and Chess Club. We have Intermediate Volleyball, Look around the world and Holiday Cheer.
  • Parent Reaching Out Grant 2022-2023 Discussion – Approximately $1000.00, please send Telma, your ideas. Parent/ Student involved. Examples in the past: Scientists in School, Guest speakers, Mental Health.(Andrea)
  • Fundraising overview (final decisions of the Jars, etc) – Barrie Colts tickets (Sean) Poinsettias, Recipes in a Jar, we did well overall in comparison to past years and running two major Fundraisers at once. (Andrea) We were able to purchase a Projector and speakers with past Fundraiser money.


  •  May 30th – Goodfellow’s 50th Anniversary Open House, there will be Food Trucks, Silent Auction, Artifacts, Special Guests, Staff from the Public Library will be running family activities. Please, see Telma with ideas and to lend a hand.
